Since its birth, at the end of seventies, barcode changed
radically the world of product identification. Pin printers,
until then used to print characters, are used for this new
application too. But slowness and bad quality bring in a few
time to the birth of the much better thermal printers |

Thermal Printing
In the first Seventies, thermal transfer technology begins
changing the way of printing labels.
Quality and speed improve and printers are more practical and
reliable.
Nowadays thermal transfer and direct thermal technology is
well known and ew applications are frequent.
Consumables
A big contribution to these continuous improvements surely
arrived from consumables.
Ribbons are continually under study to be improved in terms of
quality and respect for the environment.
Beside paper labels, many other supports for printing have
been introduced: cardboards, plastics, anti-scratch materials,
and radio frequency transponder.
RFID - The future in automatic identification
Automatic identification world is more and more looking for a
support in the magnetic label reading.
In fact there are many advantages deriving from this emerging
technology, compared to the traditional barcode: data update,
large memory, instantaneous data identification, multiple data
collection (hundreds of labels in a second), far reading,
smaller labels, great resistance to scratches.
